The people behind Maata

Maata is led by Nomfundo Zungu, who keeps the business focused on thoughtful baby and maternity products that suit everyday family life in South Africa. Her approach is practical, with attention to what new parents actually need, from gift items for baby showers to useful pieces for home and travel. She works closely with the team to keep service clear, responsive and grounded in real local needs.

Based in Umhlanga, Durban, the team supports online orders for customers in Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Gqeberha. That means careful coordination matters, from stock selection to packing and delivery planning, especially when orders are time sensitive or heading out as gifts. Everyone here understands that baby shopping is often done between work, school runs and family life, so simplicity counts.

  • Founded in 2012 and rooted in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal
  • Supporting direct gift delivery across major South African cities
  • Focused on practical baby and maternity gifting for families and friends

Operations that keep orders on track

Anele Mthembu, our Operations Manager, looks after the day-to-day flow of orders so things move in the right direction. She keeps an eye on stock movement, packing steps and handovers, which is especially important when there are multiple delivery areas on the go. In a city like Durban, where humidity can affect stored items and schedules can shift with load-shedding, good planning makes a real difference.

Sibusiso Khumalo, our Warehouse Coordinator, manages the back end of product handling and checks that items are packed properly before dispatch. He helps keep things orderly for gift boxes, bundles and individual products, making sure orders are ready for collection or delivery without unnecessary delays. The work is hands-on and detailed, with careful attention to condition and presentation.

  • Order flow is managed with practical packing and dispatch routines
  • Gift items are prepared with care for local and national delivery
  • Storage and handling are managed with Durban conditions in mind

Customer care with a human touch

Priya Naidoo leads Customer Care, where clear communication matters every day. She helps customers with product questions, gift messages, registry help and general order support through the enquiry form on our contact page. A lot of our customers are planning ahead for a baby shower, or arranging a surprise for someone who has just welcomed a new baby, so being helpful and calm counts.

Priya also makes sure that enquiries are handled in a way that suits busy South African households. Whether a customer is in Pretoria, Cape Town or right here in Durban, they need straightforward answers about gift options, delivery areas and ordering steps. If a health question comes up, we always suggest speaking to a clinic, midwife or doctor.

  • Support for gift messages, registry help and group gifting
  • Questions handled through the contact page enquiry form
  • Clear guidance on delivery areas and gift options

Buying products that work for real life

Lerato Moloi, our Product Buyer, chooses items with everyday use in mind. That includes maternity wear, baby essentials and giftable pieces that are comfortable, practical and suitable for local conditions. She looks for materials and styles that suit warm coastal weather, cooler inland areas and the kind of routine busy families keep.

Her work is about balance. Products need to look good in a gift box, but they also need to be useful once they are opened and put to work. Lerato keeps an eye on what families ask for most, from newborn gifts and maternity gifts to smaller add-ons that make a bundle feel complete. It is careful buying, not guesswork.

Danielle Jacobs supports the product and content side by keeping descriptions clear, consistent and easy to understand. She helps make sure the details match what customers need to know before they order, without overcomplicating things.

Delivery planning across South Africa

Thabiso Dlamini leads Delivery Planning and coordinates the movement of orders from our Durban base to destinations across the country. He works with the team to plan for direct gift delivery, last-minute gifts and larger sending schedules across Durban, Umhlanga, Ballito, Pietermaritzburg, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Gqeberha. Timing matters, especially when a gift needs to arrive for a shower, welcome visit or workplace celebration.

His role is to keep delivery plans realistic and organised, with local route knowledge and awareness of what each area may require. That includes making space for rush periods, traffic delays and practical handover timing. The aim is simple: get the order where it needs to be, in good condition and without fuss.

  • Delivery planning for KwaZulu-Natal and major metros
  • Support for last-minute gifts and direct delivery requests
  • Local route planning for Durban, coastal and inland areas

Why families come back to Maata

What ties the team together is a shared respect for practical service. From newborn gift boxes to maternity gift boxes, from workplace baby gifts to gift vouchers, every order is handled by people who understand that these purchases often sit inside important family moments. The team works with care, but also with common sense and attention to detail.

Maata's team is small enough to stay personal and organised, but broad enough to cover buying, packing, care and delivery planning properly. If you need help choosing a gift, sending something straight to a loved one or arranging a bundle for a group celebration, this is the team behind the work. The result is a service shaped around real people, real homes and real South African family life.
